The Indonesian National Police (Polri), together with ministries, agencies, and regional governments across Indonesia, are strengthening coordination to ensure security for the entire series of celebrations marking the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence on 17 August 2026. National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stressed that anticipatory security measures have been comprehensively prepared so that all commemorative agendas held by the government and the public can proceed in a conducive manner. “We, together with all ministries and agencies, particularly those tasked with maintaining security stability, are working with all regional governments throughout Indonesia. Naturally, we are constantly coordinating to ensure the entire series of activities can run safely,” Sigit said in Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8). Sigit also appealed to all levels of society to participate in maintaining order and a peaceful atmosphere while commemorating independence day. According to him, the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence is a national moment that should be celebrated together in a spirit of unity. “Of course, we urge everyone, this is our celebration, the 81st independence celebration, our shared celebration. Let us welcome it together, celebrate it together properly, and safeguard the integrity of this nation,” Sigit concluded.
