Ahead of the 2026 Eid holiday exodus, PT Kereta Api Indonesia Daerah Operasi (Daop) 4 Semarang, Central Java, is ensuring that train journeys during the 2026 Eid transport period will be conducted safely and comfortably. To this end, personnel from the Rail and Bridge section of Daop 4 Semarang are conducting intensive maintenance of railway tracks in the Daop 4 region, spanning from Tegal to Cepu.

Luqman Arif, Manager of Communications at KAI Daop 4 Semarang, stated that this action represents preparations for the increased frequency of train journeys and customers during the Eid transport period.

“Because the level of public mobility increases significantly, which requires optimal infrastructure readiness to minimise the potential for operational disruptions,” said Luqman Arif through an official statement on Sunday (1 March 2026).

Luqman Arif explained that the operational area of Daop 4 Semarang covers the northern and part of the southern routes of Central Java with the following operational boundaries:

Western side: Tegal Station (boundary with Daop 3 Cirebon).

Eastern side: Cepu Station (boundary with Daop 8 Surabaya).

Southern side: Gundih Station (boundary with Daop 6 Yogyakarta).

Administratively, the Daop 4 region covers 10 regencies and cities. “The operational area of Daop 4 Semarang has a rail length of 677 km. To maintain the quality of the railway track, KAI Daop 4 Semarang also has 27 Technical Implementation Units (UPT) for Rail and Bridge consisting of 22 Rail Track UPTs, 4 Bridge UPTs, and 1 Mechanical UPT,” said Luqman Arif.

The intensive infrastructure maintenance work undertaken includes:

Track Geometry Maintenance: Consisting of measurement and adjustment of rail width, correction of rail elevation and alignment, and track stabilisation using heavy rail maintenance equipment.

Track Component Replacement: Namely replacement of rail bearings (concrete/wood) that have cracked or been damaged, replacement of worn rail, and addition and arrangement of ballast (crushed stone) to maintain track structure strength.

Bridge and Drainage Inspection: Consisting of detailed inspection of railway bridge construction, cleaning of water channels on either side of the track, and normalisation of drainage in flood-prone and waterlogged areas.

Patrol and Surveillance of Special Monitoring Areas: Consisting of increased frequency of patrols in areas prone to subsidence, flooding, and landslides; placement of 24-hour infrastructure standby personnel in special monitoring areas; and operation of extra Track Inspection Officers (PPJ) during the Eid transport period.

Placement of Materials for Emergency Standby (AMUS): Consisting of ballast stones, iron, wood, concrete bearings, and other materials on flat wagons. AMUS is positioned at 5 locations in the Daop 4 Semarang region, namely Pekalongan Station, Brumbung Station, Gundih Station, Cepu Station, and Gambringan Station.

According to Luqman Arif, with this intensified maintenance, Daop 4 Semarang targets zero infrastructure disruptions that could hinder train journeys during the 2026 Eid transport period. In addition to technical work, KAI is also preparing emergency response teams and supporting equipment that are ready for deployment whenever emergency conditions occur in the field.

“Daop 4 Semarang is committed to providing safe, secure, comfortable, and punctual train journeys, so that the public can conduct their Eid holiday travel with peace of mind,” Luqman Arif said. He also added that to support operational smoothness, the public is urged not to conduct activities on railway tracks and to exercise discipline when crossing level crossings.

The peak season for 2026 Eid transport runs from 6 March to 6 April 2026. As of the statement date, 57,673 tickets had been sold for the 2026 Eid transport period, representing approximately 36.5% of the total 157,740 seating capacity. During the estimated peak of Eid on 21–22 March, tickets sold reached 6,692 seats.
