Agus Jabo Reminds That Criticism Should Be Substantive, Not Personal Attacks
According to him, programmatically, various government policies that favour the people have no significant gaps for attack. Therefore, he continued, there have been efforts from several groups to thwart those programmes through intrigue and non-substantive attacks. “Because programmatically there are no gaps for attack, there are efforts from some community groups that want to thwart the President’s pro-people programmes with intrigue and personal attacks,” said Agus Jabo in his statement on Saturday (2/5/2026). Agus Jabo referred to those groups as part of the ‘serakahnomic’ phenomenon, specifically in the fourth category or what is called ‘kaum hantam kromo’. Furthermore, Agus Jabo assessed that the pattern of attacks carried out is a classic issue diversion that has the potential to divide society. “This is a classic issue diversion. Play on morality issues and bring in religion, this is dangerous,” he stressed. In that context, he greatly regretted the statement by Amien Rais, who is known to be one of the leaders of Partai Ummat. Agus Jabo reminded that public space should not be filled with narratives that obscure the substance of policies and instead trigger polarisation in society. He also invited all parties to collaborate in fostering national unity for the realisation of social welfare for all Indonesian people. “It is important to keep public discourse focused on the interests of the people and the sustainability of the government’s strategic programmes,” he concluded.
