Agus Jabo: Prima Party Will Be a Major Force by 2029

JAKARTA — Agus Jabo Priyono, chairman of the Rakyat Adil Makmur (Prima) Party, is convinced his party will become a major force by 2029. In an exclusive interview with Kompas.com, Jabo said he has prepared everything to face the 2029 general election. ‘In 2029, mark my words, we will be a force,’ he told reporters at the Ministry of Social Affairs office in Salemba, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 21 May 2026.

Jabo emphasised that nationalist forces must win rather than focusing on how his party strides into Parliament. ‘That is a trivial matter to get into Parliament; we must join first because this is a new situation, nationalist forces must win,’ he said. ‘Even though we didn’t enter Parliament yet, we had joined the TKN with Agus Jabo, Airlangga Hartarto and AHY; our seat was already in front of Mr Prabowo, even before entering Parliament the position was like that, let alone entering Parliament.’

In the 2024 elections, Prima failed to compete. Yet Jabo says formal requirements had been prepared well, and he hopes the party will have the chance to contest in 2029. ‘The target is to make Indonesia a baldatun tayyibatun wa rabbun ghafur nation.’ ‘The Prima anniversary event on 1 June? The speech is ready to be read.’

During the 4th Prima anniversary in Central Jakarta on 1 June 2025, Jabo suspected a powerful force did not want Prima to participate in the 2024 elections. At that time, Prima filed a civil suit with the Central Jakarta District Court. The court ruled in Prima’s favour against the KPU, ordering it to halt electoral stages from the date of the ruling, 2 March 2023, for 2 years 4 months and 7 days. Jabo claimed the party could have delayed the elections, but they did not pursue the matter further.
