President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has appointed Agus Fatoni as head of the National Amil Zakat Board (BAZNAS) for the 2026–2031 term. The appointment was formalised through a Presidential Decree on the appointment of the leadership and members of BAZNAS for the 2026–2031 period.

The decree was delivered by Nasaruddin Umar during a handover ceremony in the swearing-in room on the 2nd floor of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

The BAZNAS leadership structure for the 2026–2031 period consists of representatives from both society and government. The societal representatives are Diddik Sodik Mudjahid, Zainut Tauhid Saadi, Rizaludin Kurniawan, Saidah Sakwan, Syarifuddin, Idy Muzayyad, Mokhamad Mahdum, and Neyla Saida Anwar.

The government representatives consist of Abu Rokhmad, Agus Fatoni, and Mochamad Agus Rofludin.

The appointment of the new leadership is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen BAZNAS as the official state institution managing zakat nationally. Through this strengthening, the management of zakat, infaq, and sedekah is expected to become increasingly professional, transparent, and accountable, thereby delivering tangible benefits for improving public welfare.

Agus Fatoni currently serves as Director General of Regional Finance at the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. He possesses extensive experience in public finance and regional governance administration, including having served as acting governor in several provinces.

Throughout his career, Fatoni has received numerous awards. On 30 August 2024, he was honoured as Best Acting Governor based on assessment by the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia together with Tempo Media Group. He won two categories simultaneously: best overall performance and best performance in the field of regional economics.

Additionally, Fatoni received an award from BAZNAS as a governor judged to have successfully supported the national zakat programme whilst serving in Papua. Other awards he has received include Excellence in Regional Financial Governance 2026 at the Indonesia Top Achievements of The Year (ITAY) 2026 event and CNN Indonesia Awards 2024 in the Most Inspiring Leader category.

Under his leadership, the North Sumatra Provincial Government also won the Best Social Engagement and Leading Public Infrastructure Management awards on 9 August 2024. He has also received the Golden Pin award from the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia in 2023 and 2024.
