Agroindustry Sector Strengthens BUMN Performance as New Growth Engine
The performance of several state-owned enterprises (BUMN) under the management of Danantara Indonesia is showing a positive trend for the 2025 financial year. A number of strategic companies in the banking, energy, telecommunications, mining, and plantation sectors have recorded significant profit growth, reflecting the increasingly strong foundation of BUMN transformation.
Agroindustry observer and public policy analyst from Andalas University, Dr. Eng. Muhammad Makky, assessed that these achievements show that BUMN transformation is now not only supported by traditional sectors such as banking, energy, telecommunications, and mining. It is also beginning to be strengthened by the agroindustry sector, which has a strategic role in the national economy.
“In this context, the increase in PTPN Group’s profit serves as an important signal that the plantation sector is now capable of becoming a new pillar driving the national economy,” Makky said in a statement on Tuesday.
According to him, this achievement does not merely indicate an increase in company profitability but reflects the success of governance improvements, operational efficiency, business integration, and asset optimisation that have been carried out consistently over recent years.
Makky added that PTPN Group’s role will become increasingly strategic in the future, in line with the strengthening of the downstreaming agenda being pursued by the government. As a manager of key commodities such as palm oil, sugarcane, rubber, coffee, and tea, PTPN holds a vital position in building value-added industries.
“PTPN’s transformation is highly relevant to the direction of national development. The government is currently promoting downstreaming as a strategy to enhance industrial competitiveness while creating added value domestically. PTPN is in a very strategic position to execute this agenda,” he said.
Makky also assessed that strengthening the plantation sector will be increasingly important in supporting the national energy security programme. The government’s policy to expand the use of B50 biodiesel and develop bioethanol requires a sustainable supply of raw materials, which can be met by state-owned plantation companies.
“Energy security is not just about refineries or energy distribution, but also about the readiness of the upstream sector. PTPN Group, with its extensive land banks and plantation commodities, can be a key part of the new and renewable energy ecosystem,” he explained.
He expressed hope that the positive performance momentum of several BUMNs will be maintained through consistent transformation, strengthened corporate governance, accelerated downstreaming, and synergy with Danantara Indonesia, so that their contribution to national economic growth will become even greater.
