Agrinas Pangan CEO Reveals Strategy for Importing Pickup Vehicles for Red and White Village Cooperatives, Including Countries of Origin
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The President Director of PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, Joao Angelo De Sousa Mota, stated that the importation of 160,000 pickup vehicles for the operational activities of Red and White Village/Kelurahan Cooperatives (Kopdes/kel) Merah Putih does not solely come from India. According to him, the procurement of operational vehicles is also sourced from China and Japan.
“All the vehicles have already been procured, totaling 160,000 units,” Joao said when met at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs, Jakarta, on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
Joao explained that his company opted for imports because pickup vehicles with four-wheel-drive systems (4WD/4x4) are not yet produced in Indonesia.
“All current 4x4 vehicles are imported products. None are produced locally,” he stated.
He detailed that the goods transport vehicles come from several Japanese automotive manufacturers such as Hino, Mitsubishi, and Isuzu, as well as the Chinese manufacturer Foton. These vehicles are imported alongside thousands of trucks and pickups from India.
“The 160,000 units consist of 13,600 units from Mitsubishi, 10,000 units from Hino, 900 units from Isuzu, and 13,000 units from Foton. The remainder come from India,” Joao said.
Furthermore, Joao mentioned that the total budget for procuring these vehicles reaches Rp 200 trillion, sourced from the development allocation per Kopdes/kel Merah Putih amounting to Rp 3 billion. However, regarding the number of units already in Indonesia and ready for distribution, Joao admitted he does not have precise data.
Previously, the Minister of Cooperatives, Ferry Juliantono, stated that the distribution of imported trucks and pickups from India is expected to support the operations of ready and completed Kopdes/kel Merah Putih.
“Trucks and pickups have already been distributed to Red and White Village/Kelurahan Cooperatives, and they seem adequate and can be used to support cooperative operations,” said Minister Ferry.
Furthermore, Ferry explained that the distribution of 105,000 trucks and pickups from India is carried out gradually in line with the progress of physical construction of Kopdes/kel Merah Putih.
