The CEO of PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, Joao Angelo De Sousa Mota, stated that the 4x4 pickup trucks imported from India are intended for 70,000 Red and White Village Cooperatives (Kopdes). As many as 35,000 units were purchased from Mahindra & Mahindra, while the other 35,000 units were purchased from Tata Motors India.

According to Joao, the availability of 4x4 pickup trucks is needed by farmers to transport agricultural products to market. He admitted that he initially questioned why Kopdes Merah Putih should have vehicles. “But after I tried to understand, it turned out that the President’s wish was how to connect farmers directly with consumers so that fair prices could be achieved,” he said at a press conference at the Agrinas Pangan office, Jakarta, Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Furthermore, Joao assessed that the price of 4x4 pickup trucks in the country is quite expensive. In fact, the price on the e-catalog can reach IDR 528 million per unit. According to him, this price does not match the limited income of farmers.

Therefore, Joao said, farmers are forced to use 4x2 pickup trucks as an alternative vehicle. “Even if we use 4x2 now, it’s because the price of 4x4 in Indonesia is so high, it’s almost unreasonable,” he said.

The high price made Agrinas decide to import pickup trucks from India. Another factor, Joao said, is that the imported vehicles have a larger carrying capacity, reaching 1.2 tons.

He also highlighted the limited domestic production, as the production of 4x2 pickup trucks, which only reaches around 120,000 units, has been largely absorbed for the free nutritious food program.

Joao stated that Agrinas has built 30,712 Red and White Kopdes outlets, of which 1,357 have been established and will soon be operational. He claims that procuring vehicles from India has enabled Agrinas to save up to IDR 46.5 trillion in budget. Agrinas itself received funding of IDR 200 trillion from state-owned banks for the construction of Red and White Kopdes. “So far, we have spent around IDR 90 trillion,” said Joao.
