Agrinas and Pertamina NRE Explore Renewable Energy Development Opportunities

State-owned plantation firm PT Agrinas Palma Nusantara (Persero) has entered into a partnership with PT Pertamina New and Renewable Energy (NRE) to explore various opportunities for developing new and renewable energy (EBT) to support the national development agenda. Agrinas Palma Nusantara President Director Muhammad Abdul Ghani described the collaboration as a strategic step for the company in optimising the nation’s bioenergy potential as part of its government mandate. “We believe that synergy among state-owned enterprises will accelerate the realisation of a sustainable national bioenergy ecosystem and provide tangible benefits to the public,” he stated in Jakarta on Wednesday. Through this partnership, Agrinas Palma Nusantara and Pertamina NRE will focus their collaborative exploration on developing renewable energy based on national resource potential. The primary focus includes the reactivation of a biodiesel plant (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester/FAME) and the construction of two cassava-based bioethanol plants, along with other mutually agreed renewable energy initiatives. Abdul Ghani noted that the biodiesel plant reactivation is targeted to restore a production capacity of up to 600,000 tonnes per year, significantly contributing to meeting national biodiesel demand and strengthening the fuel mix based on biofuels. “The focus on reactivating the biodiesel plant and developing cassava-based bioethanol is expected to create added value for agricultural commodities, strengthen energy security, and support the government’s priority food self-sufficiency programmes,” he said. The planned construction of two cassava-based bioethanol plants, each with a capacity of 300 kilolitres per day (KLPD) for a total of 600 KLPD, is expected to enhance agricultural commodity value, reinforce the national bioethanol supply, and support both food self-sufficiency and the transition towards cleaner energy. Agrinas Palma Nusantara and Pertamina NRE will conduct a series of studies and feasibility assessments to identify potential projects for development. These studies will cover technical, market, economic, business, environmental, legal, and risk management aspects to ensure that each collaborative opportunity can be implemented optimally and deliver sustainable benefits. The collaboration will also be strengthened through discussions on strategic, technical, and commercial aspects, including the exchange of relevant knowledge, experience, and technology in renewable energy development. Furthermore, both parties will explore the utilisation of facilities, equipment, and materials to support effective and efficient project implementation.
