The Ministry of Agriculture has distributed hybrid corn seed assistance to farmers in Blitar Regency, East Java, to support increased corn production and strengthen national food security. The assistance is designated for 6,457 hectares of land managed by 366 farmer groups across 17 sub-districts in Blitar Regency.

Blitar Regent Rijanto expressed appreciation for the central government’s attention to farmers in the area. He stated that the hybrid corn seed assistance is expected to increase harvest yields, maintain agricultural productivity, and support the national food self-sufficiency programme. He noted that the assistance represents tangible support for farmers to enhance corn productivity amidst various challenges in the agricultural sector, while simultaneously strengthening national food security. According to him, Blitar Regency, as a food buffer region, must continue to increase production through adequate agricultural production facilities. He expressed hope that the seed assistance would be utilised effectively by farmers and improve agricultural production achievements in Blitar Regency.

Head of the Blitar Food Security and Agriculture Agency, Setiyana, explained that the assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture amounted to 96.3 tonnes of hybrid corn seeds for a planting area of 6,457 hectares. The seeds distributed consist of three varieties: Bisi 18, JAB 69 Sakti, and Maxxi, which were distributed to 366 farmer groups in 17 sub-districts across Blitar Regency. The distribution of seeds took place from June to the second week of July 2026. The realisation of planting is adjusted to the planting schedule in each sub-district. Some of the seeds have already been planted by farmers, whilst others are still in process. The local government continues to assist farmers with proper planting patterns. Setiyana added that some of the seeds have been planted, while the remainder are awaiting the planting season so that all assistance can be utilised optimally.
