Agriculture Ministry and Police Food Task Force Join Forces to Stabilise Broiler Prices

The Ministry of Agriculture is collaborating with the National Police’s Food Task Force to oversee an improvement in live chicken prices at the farm level after months of prices remaining below production costs, threatening the sustainability of the poultry business. The initiative was formalised through a coordination meeting on national poultry stabilisation involving integrated poultry companies, farmer associations, the Food Task Force, and the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health. All participants signed a written commitment to accelerate the recovery of live chicken prices, ensuring a fair profit for farmers through measured and sustainable steps. The commitment includes accelerating the absorption of live chickens and increasing slaughtering capacity at poultry abattoirs. The agreed target is a minimum farm-gate price of Rp19,500 per kilogram of live weight, to be achieved no later than 15 July 2026. The price recovery will be implemented in stages starting from 30 June 2026, moving gradually towards the government’s reference price to achieve market balance without disrupting supply or business activities. Director General of Livestock and Animal Health Agung Suganda stated that all business actors are also committed to maintaining production balance in accordance with Minister of Agriculture Regulation Number 10 of 2024 to prevent oversupply that depresses poultry selling prices. Supervision of the commitment’s implementation will be carried out jointly by the government, the Food Task Force, the Business Competition Supervisory Commission, regional governments, and poultry associations to ensure all agreements are effectively executed in the field. Agung emphasised that the government will impose sanctions on business actors who ignore the commitment, following the directive of the Minister of Agriculture to maintain price stability and the sustainability of broiler farming. Secretary General of the National Chicken Farmers Organisation Sugeng Wahyudi said live chicken prices over the past two months have severely hit farmers as they were below production costs. He appreciated the government’s role in maintaining stability so that all business actors committed to implementing a minimum price of Rp19,500 per kilogram, then moving toward the government reference price of Rp25,000 per kilogram within two weeks. Secretary General of the Indonesian People’s Poultry Association Muhlis Wahyudi called on all business actors to implement the agreement without exception. Head of the Food Task Force at the National Police Criminal Investigation Division, Brigadier General Zain Dwi Nugroho, stressed that the signed agreement must not remain a commitment on paper but must be realised in the field. He confirmed that intensive supervision will be conducted to ensure live chicken prices at the farm level truly move according to the agreed target, with gradual sanctions imposed on any business actors found selling or buying live chickens below the set price.
