Agriculture Ministry Addresses Industry Concerns on Superior Seed Prices

The Director of Food Crop Seeds at the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, Ladiyani Retno Widowati, has confirmed the government’s commitment to increasing the use of superior and certified seed varieties. The government continues to promote education and easier access for farmers to obtain superior seeds while simultaneously boosting research and development of various superior seed varieties. On the other hand, the Ministry of Agriculture is also strengthening coordination between the government and the seed industry in the development of superior seeds, including addressing production costs and complaints related to selling prices. The ministry also detailed its strategy for developing superior seeds and encouraging farmers to use certified seeds, as well as outlining government efforts to strengthen the national seed reserve.
