Agriculture Minister: Strategic Policy Is Key to Building Agricultural Sector
Makassar — Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has emphasised that strategic and sustainable policy constitutes the fundamental key to developing the agricultural sector.
The minister made this statement during a public lecture on “Sustainable Agricultural Policy” at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Agriculture, Hasanuddin University Campus, Tamalanrea, Makassar, on Friday.
In his presentation, Minister Amran stressed that policy is not merely administrative regulation but rather a principal instrument capable of transforming the face of Indonesian agriculture in a short timeframe.
For this reason, agricultural policy plays a strategic role in determining the future of the sector at the national level.
“Wherever, policy is extremely strategic. Good policy can increase productivity, particularly through appropriate regulation. Conversely, incorrect policy could create difficulties for hundreds of millions of Indonesians,” he asserted.
He explained that appropriate policy does not only impact increased production but also directly contributes to farmer welfare.
According to him, Indonesia’s national agricultural transformation to date has been inseparable from a collection of policies designed systematically, measurably, and with a focus on efficiency.
“What has transformed the face of Indonesian agriculture in a short time is a collection of policies. These policies can conserve resources, increase productivity, and bring prosperity to our farmers,” he added.
This public lecture served as a space for reflection and strategic education for agricultural students at Hasanuddin University, so they not only understand the technical aspects of agriculture but are also able to see policy as the principal foundation for sustainable agricultural development in the future.
