Agriculture Minister Reveals Masterminds Behind Rise in Chicken and Egg Prices

Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman has revealed the mastermind behind the rise in prices of chicken and eggs. Amran said the cause is middlemen who push up prices.

He noted that the rogue traders have raised chicken meat prices to Rp 23,000 per kilogram, while eggs are priced at Rp 8,000 per kilogram.

‘The ones causing it are the middlemen. They raised the price of chicken meat by Rp 23,000/kg. They raised the price of eggs by Rp 8,000/kg,’ Amran said at the BULOG Warehouse of the DKI Jakarta and Banten Regional Office, as quoted by detikFinance on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.

Amran said the prices of chicken meat and eggs from major distributors were already in line with existing prices. However, there were parties in the country pushing the prices up, while large distributors did not raise prices for beef and chicken.

Nevertheless, Amran assured that the authorities have resolved the price hikes. He claimed that prices of beef and chicken have begun to fall.

‘I’ve already sorted out chicken meat and eggs prices,’ Amran said.

Amran confirmed that the government will take firm action against those who manipulate prices above the rules. When asked whether the actions would target middleman companies, Amran said such measures could be taken.

‘We will seal it off. I take responsibility. Yes, it can be closed, the company. Is there a company? There is a price ceiling (HET), it must not be violated,’ he asserted.
