Agriculture Minister Reports to Prabowo at Palace: Fresh Fruit Bunch Prices Back to Normal

President Prabowo Subianto summoned Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman to the Presidential Palace complex in Central Jakarta. Amran stated he would report on the price of oil palm fresh fruit bunches (FFB). “Regarding the discussion, wait until I come out. My initial estimate is a discussion about FFB, which declined a few days ago. But, alhamdulillah, it has returned to normal,” Amran said upon arrival at the Palace on Thursday (18/6/2026). Amran said companies have again raised FFB prices at the farmer level. However, according to him, there remains a small number of companies that have not yet implemented the FFB price increase. “But there are still a few, perhaps around 5 per cent that have not recovered, up to 10 per cent,” Amran said. Besides the FFB price issue, Amran said the government would discuss the national food situation. The agricultural sector downstreaming agenda, which is one of the government’s priorities, is also likely to be discussed. “Then food, our food balance and its downstreaming,” he said. Previously, Amran had stated he would take firm action against companies that have not raised the purchase price of oil palm FFB at the farmer level to the original price. This is because, rather than experiencing a decline, Amran believes FFB prices should currently be on an upward trend in line with the strengthening of global crude palm oil (CPO) prices. Moreover, the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar, which is now above Rp 18,000 per US dollar, should also encourage a price increase. “There is an anomaly here; at this time, prices should be rising, not falling. Why? Because the dollar difference has already risen 10 per cent. It must go up, there is no reason to go down. Why did it go down? We asked, no one could answer. Okay, we all agree, not a single one objected. The association chairman was present, the companies were present, the exporters were present, everyone agreed the price would return to normal,” he said during a press conference following a meeting on FFB prices with businesspeople and farmers at the Ministry of Agriculture office in South Jakarta on Monday (8/6).
