Kendari (ANTARA) - The Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) of the Republic of Indonesia, Andi Amran Sulaiman, directly inspected settlements in Kendari and rice fields in South Konawe Regency (Konsel), Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra), which were affected by the flood disaster.

The Indonesian Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, when met in Kendari on Tuesday, stated that the visit to Bumi Anoa was a direct order from President Prabowo Subianto to quickly respond to complaints from flood-affected residents.

“Early this morning, I decided to depart to see the situation directly and resolve the issues. We came bringing solutions, not narratives,” said Amran Sulaiman while inspecting the settlement area in Kali Wanggu, Kendari.

He mentioned that based on the field inspection, his team identified the breach of the embankment as the main cause of the water source disruption.

To that end, he instructed the Regional River Basin Agency (BWS) to immediately carry out physical repairs.

“The source of the problem must be fixed. We ask the BWS to complete the embankment repairs within one week. The funds are ready, the equipment is ready, so that this calamity does not recur,” said Amran Sulaiman.

Regarding infrastructure handling, the Minister has coordinated with the Ministry of Public Works (PU) for irrigation repairs and embankment construction to prevent subsequent floods.

“The source of the problem must be fixed. All embankments will be built; we have already telephoned the Director General at the Ministry of PU. The funds are ready, the equipment is ready. We request one week, at the latest two weeks, to complete it so that this does not happen again,” emphasised Amran Sulaiman.

It is known that during the visit, Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman was accompanied by the Deputy Governor of Sultra, Hugua, the Mayor of Kendari, Siska Karina Imran, and several regional officials to ensure the conditions of the flood-affected residents in Kendari.
