Agriculture Minister: Government's Rice Reserve Stock at Bulog Surpasses 5.19 Million Tonnes

Agriculture Minister and Head of the National Food Agency Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that the government’s rice reserve stock (CBP) managed by Perum Bulog has surpassed 5.198 million tonnes as of 23 April 2026 at 08:55 WIB.

Amran described this achievement as the first in Indonesia’s history, signifying the highest national rice reserves for the April period ever recorded.

“Alhamdulillah, today, 23 April 2026, at 08:55 WIB, the rice stock across Indonesia is 5.198 million tonnes. This is the first time; it has never happened in history. This is the first in history,” said Minister Amran during a break while inspecting rice stocks at a Bulog warehouse in Karawang, West Java, on Thursday.

According to Amran, this accomplishment is the result of hard work by various parties, from the Ministry of Agriculture, Bulog, TNI/Polri, the Prosecutor’s Office, to support from the public, observers, and the press.

Amran also revealed that the government is continuously increasing storage capacity through warehouse rentals to accommodate the rising domestic production and national rice reserves.

In the Karawang region, for example, the government has rented a warehouse with a capacity of 102,000 tonnes, of which around 80,000 tonnes are already filled and expected to be full within the next two weeks.

Nationally, Bulog’s total warehouse capacity reaches around 3 million tonnes, while additional rented warehouses in use amount to 2 million tonnes to support rice reserve storage.

Amran assessed that this success not only impacts national food security but also demonstrates Indonesia’s contribution to global food stability, which relies on rice commodities.

He noted that during the 2023 to 2024 period, Indonesia imported around 7 million tonnes of rice, but in 2025, the government successfully stopped those imports.

The government is optimistic about not importing rice in 2026, in line with increased domestic production and the strengthening of national rice reserves that continue to be maintained.

He emphasised that the stock data can be legally accounted for, given that the value of the rice reserves reaches around Rp55 to Rp60 trillion, making it impossible to report without valid basis.

During the inspection, Minister Amran was accompanied by the President Director of Perum Bulog Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani and attended by several agriculture observers.
