Agriculture Minister Amran Delighted as Indonesian Fertiliser Penetrates Australia, Local Prices for Farmers Drop 20 Percent
Agriculture Minister (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman has conveyed a significant achievement in the domestic fertiliser sector through President Prabowo Subianto’s policies, by exporting urea fertiliser to Australia with a value of around Rp7 trillion. On the other hand, domestic fertiliser prices have successfully dropped by 20 percent.
Amran stated that the government has recorded major progress in the domestic fertiliser sector through President Prabowo Subianto’s policies, which have reduced subsidised fertiliser prices by 20 percent without additional burden on the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).
“In the midst of escalating global geopolitics, Indonesia, Alhamdulillah, has seen fertiliser prices drop by 20 percent. Subsidised fertiliser for Indonesian farmers,” said Amran during the launch of the inaugural export of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero)’s urea product through PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur to Australia at Bontang Port, East Kalimantan, as per a statement in Jakarta, Thursday, 14 May 2026.
He explained that this policy is also accompanied by an increase in the volume of subsidised fertiliser by 700,000 tons to expand farmers’ access. “The fertiliser volume has increased. This is the joy for Indonesia’s 160 million farmers and 115 million rice farmers (among them),” said Amran.
According to him, Indonesia has marked a new milestone in the transformation of the national fertiliser industry through the export of urea fertiliser to Australia valued at around Rp7 trillion. At the same time, the government has also succeeded in lowering subsidised fertiliser prices by 20 percent and increasing the fertiliser volume for national farmers, signifying the strengthening of the fertiliser sector from upstream to downstream.
The launch serves as a new milestone in strengthening fertiliser sector cooperation through a government-to-government (G2G) scheme between Indonesia and Australia.
Furthermore, Amran mentioned that today’s inaugural export amounts to 47,250 tons of urea fertiliser worth around Rp600 billion. This export is the initial phase of a cooperation commitment of 250,000 tons and will continue to be increased to 500,000 tons with a total value of around Rp7 trillion.
After Australia, the government is directing the strengthening of the national fertiliser export market to several other strategic countries such as India, the Philippines, Brazil, and Bangladesh.
At the same venue, Australia’s Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia, Gita Kamath, expressed appreciation for the cooperation that has been established between Indonesia and Australia.
