Agriculture Minister: Agriculture Contributes 12.67% to GDP, Supports Economic Growth
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that with the agriculture sector’s contribution of 12.67% to gross domestic product (GDP), it affirms the sector’s role as a supporter and primary driver of national economic growth in the first quarter of 2026. “Agriculture today is not only a supporter but has become the main driver of the national economy. When other sectors face pressure, agriculture emerges as a solution and the primary supporter,” the Minister said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. Amran emphasised that this achievement is tangible proof that the agriculture sector is increasingly strong and serves as the main foundation of the national economy in facing various current domestic and global economic challenges. He stated that agriculture is now not only a supporter but has developed into the primary driver of the national economy, especially when other sectors face pressure, making its role increasingly strategic and significant. The five business fields include processing industry at 19.07%, trade at 13.28%, agriculture at 12.67%, construction at 9.81%, and mining at 8.69% in the national economic structure. In this structure, the agriculture sector occupies the third position as the largest contributor to gross domestic product, demonstrating its important role in supporting the overall stability and growth of Indonesia’s economy. The Minister emphasised that the stability of the agriculture sector is inseparable from a series of structural policies that have been consistently and integrally implemented by the government in recent times.
