Agricultural Extension Workers in Surade Initiate Self-Funded PM-AAS Rice Demonstration Plot to Boost Production
Agricultural instructors in Surade District, Sukabumi Regency, have initiated the application of the PM-AAS method through a rice demonstration plot carried out on a self-funded basis.
Rimawan, Coordinator of the Surade Agricultural Extension Centre (BPP), said the activity is a concrete effort to introduce cultivation technology to farmers whilst encouraging increased rice productivity in the area.
He said that since its launch, many farmers have come to observe the cultivation process firsthand and are keen to learn the technology being applied.
All the needs of the activity, from the provision of seeds, land preparation, and plant maintenance through to harvest, were met independently by the BPP as a form of commitment to accelerating the adoption of innovation at the farmer level.
“Alhamdulillah, farmers’ enthusiasm is very high. They want to see directly how the PM-AAS method is applied in the field, so it is hoped it can be adopted more widely in the next planting season,” Rimawan said in a statement on Thursday, 9 July 2026.
One of the demonstration plots covers approximately 2,000 square metres, using the Pajajaran rice variety, and is being carried out on land belonging to the Sukarama Farmers’ Group in Cipeundeuy Village, Surade District.
According to Rimawan, the potential for expanding the demonstration plot remains considerable. In Cipeundeuy Village, around 2 hectares of land are still available, unplanted, and could serve as a site for extending the PM-AAS method. However, limited capital remains the main obstacle to developing the activity.
“In terms of land, there is actually still plenty available — around 2 hectares lying empty. The main obstacle at present is capital, so support from various parties is needed so that the application of this technology can be expanded,” he said.
The PM-AAS method is a rice cultivation approach that optimises crop and resource management efficiently. Its application is expected to increase productivity, reduce production costs, and raise farmers’ incomes.
Through this demonstration plot, agricultural instructors hope farmers can see the benefits of the technology directly before applying it on their own land.
The self-funded initiative by BPP Surade demonstrates the active role of agricultural instructors as drivers of innovation in the field. Going forward, capital support and collaboration with various parties are expected to expand the application of the PM-AAS method so that more farmers can benefit from increased rice farming productivity.
