Agrees to Pay IDR 97 Billion Customs Fine, Purbaya Unseals Tiffany & Co Store
Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has ensured that the luxury jewellery boutique Tiffany & Co in Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta, will be able to resume operations. This announcement was made following a visit to the outlet, which had previously been sealed by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) under the Ministry of Finance due to alleged import violations.
Purbaya confirmed that the removal of the seal and the reopening of the store were carried out after Tiffany & Co expressed its ability to fulfil customs obligations regarding previous imports that had not been declared and for which obligations remained unsettled.
“The party concerned has committed to complying with all applicable laws and regulations,” said Purbaya in a statement on Monday, 8 June 2026.
Following a customs audit, the DJBC previously issued a Customs Assessment Letter to Tiffany & Co amounting to IDR 97.49 billion, which includes an administrative sanction in the form of a fine totalling IDR 78.50 billion.
Purbaya emphasised that the government will always prioritise the principles of compliance, transparency, and accountability in exercising its supervisory functions. This approach aims to create a healthy business climate and ensure certainty and business continuity for all entrepreneurs in support of the national economy.
Purbaya urged all business actors to fulfil their obligations and adhere to the provisions set out in laws and regulations, noting that compliance is a vital foundation for creating a transparent and competitive business ecosystem.
“The government will continue to carry out consistent supervision, while simultaneously encouraging all business actors to behave compliantly in accordance with legal provisions,” he added.
