Agreement on phone facilities signed

JAKARTA (JP): An agreement marking the hand-over of
telecommunication facilities from the management of PT Jababeka
to East Jakarta's telecommunications office was signed in Bekasi
yesterday.

The facilities include 1,000 telephone lines and 2,400 reels
of telephone cables, worth Rp 3.1 billion.

The accord was signed by I Nyoman Punia, head of East
Jakarta's telecommunications office and president of PT Jababeka,
Hadi Rahardja.

The signing was the realization of a cooperation agreement
between PT Telkom, the state-run telecommunications company, and
PT Jababeka, which was signed on Sept. 13, 1991, in Bandung.

At yesterday's occasion, a similar cooperation agreement was
also signed between East Jakarta's telecommunications office and
PT Grahabuana.

Under the agreement PT Grahabuana will provide and install a
telephone network covering 1400 reels of primary cables as well
as 1300 reels of secondary cables.

The project, which will cost about Rp 1.5 billion, is expected
to be completed next September.

In a release made available to The Jakarta Post, I Nyoman
Punia stated that if, after the signing of the cooperation
agreement, it turns out that demand for telephone lines from the
public is more than the 1000 lines available under the agreement,
PT Telkom will handle the matter directly.

"The number can be added to at anytime, so the public should
not worry about a possible dearth of telephone lines," Punia
said. (bas)
