Agree to immediate polls

Some people are of the opinion that President Abdurrahman
Wahid (Gus Dur) will not resign. Their reasoning is that if Gus
Dur steps down under pressure, he would feel defeated. Then he
would take along Megawati, Amien Rais and Akbar Tandjung, and let
the ministers give up their posts. I agree to this idea.

Although I am very anxious about holding a general election,
as past experience has shown that many lives are lost, I still
strongly believe in conducting a new election soon. I think that
is the best way to elect the right national leader. And of course
the election must be held honestly without being tarnished by
unfair practices. Whoever wins the election should be accepted to
lead the nation.

The big question is what if the Golkar party wins? Is Akbar
Tandjung the right man to take up the presidential post? Well,
there is nothing that can be done about it. If that is the wish
of the majority of the people, let it be.

One thing must be sure that the people should never again
become victims of the so-called democracy feast.
