AGO's Team 9 Urged to Conduct Transparent Probe into Former Jampidsus Money Laundering Case
Criminal law expert Prof. Romli Atmasasmita has urged the Attorney General’s Office’s Team 9 to conduct a transparent investigation into the alleged money laundering case involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah and to announce every development to the public.
Romli, in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday, said openness is necessary to maintain public trust in law enforcement institutions and to ensure the investigation process remains accountable.
“The Attorney General’s Office, the majority of whom have experience at the KPK, bears a historic responsibility to demonstrate integrity and accountability in this investigation process,” he said.
According to him, every development in the investigation needs to be conveyed to the public so that the handling of the case can be openly monitored while strengthening public trust in law enforcement institutions.
Romli opined that investigators also need to address several important aspects in proving the case, including the ownership of assets found by investigators and the purpose of their storage before establishing the case’s construction.
He also assessed that the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) could play a role in tracing financial transaction flows, while the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) could examine State Administrators’ Wealth Reports (LHKPN) as part of deepening the case according to its authority.
Furthermore, Romli said that if investigators find sufficient preliminary evidence, they can prepare an indictment in accordance with applicable legal provisions, including for suspected money laundering if all elements are met.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General’s Office previously stated that Team 9 had examined three witnesses in the investigation into the alleged money laundering. Head of the AGO Legal Information Centre Anang Supriatna said six other witnesses who have not yet fulfilled the summons will be recalled for questioning.
