AGO's Integrity Tested, HAMI Demands Transparency in Febrie Adriansyah Case

The Indonesian Millennial Activists Association (HAMI) has urged the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) to maintain institutional integrity in handling the alleged money laundering case involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (JAM-Pidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. HAMI spokesperson Bung Aziz stressed that corruption is an extraordinary crime that robs the people of their rights, destroys public trust, and undermines the ideals of reform. Therefore, he said, the eradication of corruption must not be carried out half-heartedly or bow to the interests of certain groups. “Corruption is not merely a legal violation, but a betrayal of the constitution and the people’s mandate. This case is a real test of whether the Attorney General’s Office truly upholds the principle of equality before the law. The public is waiting for real evidence, not just promises,” Aziz stated on Wednesday (22/7). Aziz reminded that public trust in law enforcement institutions is built through transparent, independent, and consistent actions. “If the law appears sharp against the common people but blunt when it involves former high-ranking officials, then public trust in law enforcement will be destroyed. The Attorney General’s Office must prove that the mandate of the law is carried out impartially,” he asserted. Furthermore, HAMI warned that any form of intervention poses a serious threat to the sustainability of the rule of law. The group urged that the legal process be allowed to proceed purely without interference from those in power. According to him, no party should use their position or influence to obstruct the legal process. The principle of equality before the law must be clearly realised. “We deem it necessary to immediately conduct an examination and detention of Febrie Adriansyah if the legal requirements have been met. There must be no special protection, and we demand that those in power refrain from interfering in this case,” he stated.
