AGO Urged to Thoroughly Investigate Febrie Adriansyah Case and Uncover Other Involved Parties
Money Laundering Criminal Act (TPPU) expert Yenti Garnasih has urged the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) to be bold in uncovering the alleged involvement of other parties besides former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (JAM-Pidsus) Febrie Adriansyah in the suspected corruption and money laundering case. Yenti suspects there are other parties who played a larger role in the case that has ensnared Febrie. According to Yenti, Febrie and other allegedly involved parties must be punished as severely as possible if found guilty. “Do not rush to conclude that he is the only one who deserves a heavy sentence. It is possible that other parties will later be found who also played a major role and equally deserve a heavy sentence,” Yenti said when contacted on Wednesday (22/7). Yenti stressed that Febrie is a law enforcement officer who should be at the forefront of efforts to eradicate corruption. “However, if proven to have committed corruption and TPPU, then the punishment should indeed be the heaviest. This is because the person concerned is an official in a very high position in the enforcement of corruption law. So it is natural that the public’s expectation of his integrity is also very high,” she asserted. Yenti suspects the case involving Febrie has a very large value. She reasoned that the bribe or gratuity in the case is so substantial that the case ensnaring Febrie Ardiansyah is likely of a fantastic value. “If the bribe alone is that large, the question is, how big is the case being ‘greased’ or covered up? The logic is simple. For example, if someone commits corruption of Rp 1 trillion, it is impossible for them to give Rp 2 trillion to the person helping them. The amount of the bribe must be much smaller than the value of the main crime,” she said. “This means that if the value of the illicit service is already very large, the main case being protected is likely much larger. Therefore, I hope this case is thoroughly investigated,” she added. The alleged corruption that has ensnared former Jampidsus Febrie Adriansyah is considered a serious test for the credibility of law enforcement in Indonesia. The eradication of corruption must not be carried out half-heartedly or bow to the interests of certain groups.
