AGO silent on Soeharto's health report

JAKARTA: The Attorney General's Office will not disclose the
latest health report on graft suspect former president Soeharto
until it secures approval from his family, a report said.

"We will announce the results at the right time, but we have
to seek his family's consent first on whether we can disclose all
the details on his medical record," Attorney General M.A. Rachman
said on Monday.

He was speaking after the celebration of the office's 42nd
anniversary.

State prosecutors have conducted a medical check on Soeharto
due to recent reports that the former ruler was not in poor
health, which, until now, has impeded a two-year-long effort to
prosecute him for allegedly amassing US$571 million through
corruption.

Soeharto's lawyers have repeatedly warned that a patient's
medical record is confidential.--JP
