AGO Reveals Reason Rinaldi Umar Was Not Appointed as New Jampidsus Director of Investigation

Jakarta - The Head of the Attorney General’s Office Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, has revealed the reason Rinaldi Umar was not appointed as the new Director of Investigation at the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes. Speaking at the Attorney General’s Office main building on Tuesday, Anang stated that the position of Director of Investigation must be filled by a figure who is experienced and mature in special criminal acts. Consequently, the office filled the position with Saiful Bahri Siregar, who has experience in special crime investigations and is a former Head of the Bengkulu High Prosecutor’s Office. “It so happens that the person appointed, Mr Saiful Bahri, is a former Kajati, has experience in investigations, whereas Mr Rinaldi has mostly been outside,” he said. Meanwhile, Rinaldi Umar will be placed in the position of Deputy Head of the South Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office. “Mr Rinaldi will be made Deputy Head in South Sumatra first. Later on, it is clear he still needs maturation. For the Director of Investigation, it must be someone who is already mature,” he said. Previously, in the Attorney General’s Decree Number 831 of 2026 dated 22 July 2026, Rinaldi Umar was transferred to the position of Director of Investigation at Jampidsus from his previous role as Deputy Head of the Banten High Prosecutor’s Office. He was to replace Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, who was transferred to become Director III at the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence. However, on Tuesday, it was Saiful Bahri Siregar who was officially inaugurated as the Director of Investigation at Jampidsus by Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, along with 33 other officials including heads of high prosecutor’s offices and echelon II officials within the Attorney General’s Office.
