AGO Rejects Justice Collaborator Plea, Names Sony Sonjaya as Main Perpetrator in Free Nutritious Meal Programme Case
The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has rejected the justice collaborator application submitted by Sony Sonjaya (SS), a suspect in the alleged corruption case concerning the management of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme for 2025–2026. The AGO considers Sony to be the main perpetrator in this case. ‘We cannot grant the justice collaborator request, or we reject the justice collaborator application from suspect SS,’ said Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, Director of Investigation at the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, in Jakarta on Tuesday (23/6/2026). According to him, the reason for the rejection is that Sony does not meet the requirements to be a justice collaborator regarding the alleged buying and selling of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) locations. He explained that the implementation of justice collaborator status is regulated under Law Number 31 of 2014 amending Law Number 13 of 2006 on Witness and Victim Protection, as well as Supreme Court Circular Letter Number 4 of 2011. He noted there are two conditions that must be fulfilled by a justice collaborator: not being the main perpetrator and admitting to the act. However, after investigators examined Sony and scrutinised the information provided, they concluded that he is the main perpetrator in this case. ‘Mr SS is the party most responsible for determining or verifying the SPPG locations, therefore he is the main perpetrator, not a second-liner who would expose the perpetrator above him,’ he clarified. Meanwhile, regarding the second requirement that the witness-perpetrator must admit to the act, Syarief stated that Sony has not yet admitted his actions. ‘In yesterday’s examination, investigators did not consider that the suspect had admitted to the act as alleged,’ he said. For these two reasons, investigators rejected Sony Sonjaya’s request for justice collaborator status. Nevertheless, Syarief appreciated the information Sony Sonjaya provided to investigators regarding the case. ‘We greatly appreciate all information, and it can be used to shed light on this case,’ he stated.
