AGO Opens Door to New Suspects in Three Corruption Cases Involving Former Jampidsus
The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has opened the possibility of naming new suspects in the investigation of three corruption cases whose handling was transferred from the Indonesian National Police. However, the Adhyaksa Corps stressed that it cannot yet confirm any additional suspects as investigators are still studying all examination reports, evidence, and documents that have been received.
Head of the AGO’s Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, stated that investigators are conducting research on all transfer files before determining whether other parties should be held criminally responsible. “We are investigating while waiting. I do not know yet, we will wait for the results of the research and what is deepened by the prosecutors. I cannot provide an answer regarding that yet, because their roles will depend on the results of the investigators after receiving the examination reports and evidence,” Anang said at the Attorney General’s Office in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/7).
According to Anang, the investigation process that has now been taken over by the AGO is still in its early stages, so all legal facts obtained by the police investigators will be thoroughly re-examined. He also emphasised that the possibility of the case developing remains open if investigators find new evidence or information during the deepening process. “It could be. It can be deepened. From the information, we can deepen it further. It could develop. If our investigators feel it needs to be deepened, it can be. I dare not speculate. It is already under investigation. We will see the process later,” he said.
Furthermore, Anang stressed that the AGO does not want to rush to conclude that other parties are responsible before all evidence is analysed in accordance with criminal procedure law. Regarding the State Administrators’ Wealth Report (LHKPN), Anang explained that the authority for examination lies with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The AGO only records that the individual concerned has fulfilled the reporting obligation. “The LHKPN is personal, reported to the KPK. We only record that the person concerned has reported. That’s it,” he said.
The AGO confirmed that the transfer process for handling the three alleged corruption cases previously managed by police investigators is ongoing. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that President Prabowo has received proposals for a replacement for Febrie Adriansyah, including the name Kuntadi for the position of Jampidsus. Deputy Chairman of House Commission III, Ahmad Sahroni, expressed confidence that Kuntadi is the Attorney General’s best choice to replace Febrie Adriansyah. President Prabowo Subianto summoned Attorney General ST Burhanuddin regarding the corruption case of former Jampidsus Febrie Adriansyah, with Kuntadi proposed as his successor. The AGO will also request an extension of the travel ban against Febrie after the initial 20-day period expires.
