AGO Names Febrie a Suspect in Asabri Corruption and Money Laundering Case
The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has stated that former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah has only been named a suspect in the corruption and money laundering (TPPU) case of PT Asabri. Head of the AGO’s Legal Information Centre, Anang Supriatna, said the suspect designation was in accordance with the investigation warrant (Sprindik) from the National Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipikor). “Based on the investigation warrant from the National Police’s Kortas investigators, it is for one case, namely related to TPPU and Asabri,” he told reporters on Friday (17/7). Anang explained that for the alleged corruption cases at Krakatau Steel and the coal procurement for a steam power plant (PLTU), Febrie’s status remains as a witness and he has not been named a suspect. “For the two other cases, they are still under general investigation by the National Police investigators. It is clear that after the evidence and suspect are received, the necessary legal actions in the investigation will be arranged,” he said. Previously, the AGO issued three new investigation warrants related to alleged corruption and money laundering cases implicating the former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah. The AGO’s Head of Legal Information, Anang Supriatna, stated that the issuance of the three new investigation warrants was to follow up on the transfer of cases from the National Police. The three investigation warrants relate to criminal acts of corruption and money laundering at PT Krakatau Steel; coal procurement for a PLN steam power plant that resulted in a blackout; and the Asabri case. In this case, investigators have named two suspects, namely private party Don Ritto and former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes Febrie Adriansyah. Based on his role, Don Ritto is suspected of committing money laundering originating from criminal acts of corruption. Meanwhile, Febrie is suspected of involvement in alleged corruption and/or money laundering in the legal handling process of state officials in the PT Asabri case and other alleged corruption cases. The AGO has also formed a special team of nine senior prosecutors, the majority of whom have previously served at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The prosecutors are said to have shown no resistance or refusal to handle the corruption case ensnaring Febrie.
