AGO Gives Unexpected Response on 20 Names Allegedly Involved in MBG Corruption Mentioned by Sony Sonjaya

The investigation into alleged corruption in the management of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme at the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) may be entering a new chapter. The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) is open to exploring the involvement of other parties after suspect Sony Sonjaya was said to possess a list of dozens of names allegedly linked to the case. However, investigators will not immediately act upon the list, which reportedly contains dozens of names. The AGO stressed that its current focus is to directly examine Sony Sonjaya to test the veracity of the information he holds. This step is also related to the justice collaborator (JC) status requested by the former BGN deputy head, which is still under review.

Director of Investigations for the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, stated that investigators require a full account from Sony, not merely a list of names. “We will examine suspect SS first. That is the focus for now. After receiving this (JC request), we will examine suspect SS so that he can explain to us what information he has obtained. So it is not just the names, but the information,” he said, as quoted on Friday, 12 June 2026. According to Syarief, investigators do not want to rush to conclude the involvement of certain parties before obtaining a complete picture of the roles and authority of each person mentioned. Therefore, any information later provided by Sony will be verified and cross-checked against other evidence already held by investigators. “Here we will determine whether there are other, larger roles or where the authority to execute lies. That is what we are currently studying,” he said.

It was previously reported that a new development had emerged in the investigation of the alleged corruption in the management of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme at the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Former BGN Deputy Head Sony Sonjaya, now a suspect, has chosen to take the step of becoming a Justice Collaborator (JC). Furthermore, through his legal counsel, Sony is claimed to have begun disclosing information regarding other parties suspected of having links to the case being handled by the Attorney General’s Office.
