AGO Examines Sony Sonjaya's Justice Collaborator Request in MBG Corruption Case
The Attorney General’s Office (Kejaksaan Agung/Kejagung) has confirmed receiving a justice collaborator (JC) application file from suspect Sony Sonjaya (SS). The former Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has expressed his readiness to assist investigators in exposing an alleged corruption scandal within the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG).
The Director of Investigations at the Deputy Attorney General’s Office for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, stated that his office is currently testing the feasibility and validity of the application. The investigative team needs to ascertain whether the testimony and evidence offered by the suspect can reveal the roles of major intellectual actors.
‘It is true that we have received the application. We are currently examining and studying it to see what testimony will be given and what evidence we already have,’ Syarief said in Jakarta on Thursday (11/6/2026).
Syarief emphasised that JC status is not granted carelessly. Based on statutory provisions, this status is intended for suspects who are strongly committed to opening a ‘Pandora’s box’ regarding the involvement of parties with greater authority or more significant roles in the misappropriation of the national project’s budget.
Regarding the issue of several public officials’ names appearing in Sony Sonjaya’s Official Examination Report (BAP), the AGO has chosen to remain cautious. Syarief stressed that the current main focus is to examine Sony in stages in order to validate the information he holds.
‘We will examine suspect SS first. Let’s focus on that initially so that the person concerned explains to us what information he has obtained. So it is not just a name, but what the information is,’ Syarief asserted.
Previously, Sony Sonjaya’s legal counsel, Krisna Murti, revealed that his client has disclosed more than 20 names of individuals suspected of being involved in the vortex of MBG corruption funds. Krisna stated that the number could potentially increase in line with further examinations to be conducted by investigators.
