AGO Clarifies Status of Former Jampidsus, Remains a Suspect

The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has corrected its statement regarding the legal status of former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. In its latest statement, the AGO’s Head of Legal Information, Anang Supriatna, confirmed that Febrie’s status remains that of a suspect in connection with three corruption and money laundering (TPPU) cases involving a coal-fired power plant (PLTU) project, Asabri, and a debt matter related to Krakatau Steel (KS).

Anang stated that the suspect status continues the determination previously made by the joint investigative team from the Metro Jaya Police’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate and the National Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps. ‘He is still a suspect,’ Anang said in his revised statement on Wednesday evening.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, Anang had indicated that Febrie’s legal status had changed to that of a witness following the issuance of three new general investigation warrants by the AGO. He had previously stated that the new warrants, which represented the AGO’s move to take over the case from the police, did not yet name any suspects.

In his latest statement, Anang clarified that the three new investigation warrants do not invalidate the results of the police investigation. Therefore, the new warrants do not annul Febrie’s suspect status. ‘Thus, it does not nullify [the suspect status]. We still accept it,’ Anang said. He added that the results of the police investigation, which have been transferred to the AGO, will serve as a consideration and review material for the subsequent investigation. The new warrants, he noted, also explicitly consider the police’s prior determination of Febrie as a suspect.
