Aggressive Beggar in Kudus Raked in IDR 540,000 a Day Before Raid

A woman identified by the initials J (40) was caught by the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) while begging in the Menara Kudus area, Central Java. An inspection revealed she was carrying more than IDR 500,000, which she admitted was the result of a single day’s begging.

Satpol PP officers were conducting a sweep of beggars, homeless people, and vagrants in the religious tourism area of the Menara, Mosque, and Tomb of Sunan Kudus on Sunday (2 August 2026). J was apprehended because she frequently begged aggressively from pilgrims at the site.

‘She was begging aggressively, which the public complained about. If she wasn’t given money, she would get angry, pull on pilgrims’ clothes, and even followed a pilgrim onto a motorbike taxi and pulled their shirt,’ said Yan Suryo Samudro, Head of Public Order and Community Peace at the Kudus Satpol PP, as quoted by detikJateng on Wednesday (5 August).

When first caught, J claimed she earned IDR 200,000 from begging from morning until night. However, upon inspection, it was revealed that the money she had totalled IDR 540,000. ‘Among those we caught, one woman was the focus because she begged aggressively. She claimed it was IDR 200,000, but after checking, it turned out to be IDR 540,000,’ he explained.

Yan said J has been given guidance to prevent a recurrence and to maintain order at the place of worship and among pilgrims at the Sunan Kudus Tomb. The Kudus Satpol PP will also conduct more routine raids targeting beggars, homeless people, and vagrants.
