THAILAND: A Thai matchmaking service promises to deliver foreign husbands to lovelorn Thai women for the sum of 50,000 baht, or about US$1,200, and "guarantees" a divorce replacement if the first husband fails to live up to expectations, it was reported on Sunday.

Kusuma Hoiter, manager of the matchmaking service in Khon Kaen in northeastern Thailand, was quoted in the Sunday Nation newspaper as saying the only requirements are that the woman is more than 20 years old and is "not afraid of housework".

"The most important quality (foreign men) want is that the lady is hardworking when it comes to household chores," Hoiter said, adding she had arranged marriages for about 60 to 70 couples since opening the business four years ago.

Hoiter said the service includes a trip to meet the perspective husband in his country, but there is "no requirement to have sex with him".

The intrepid businesswoman said she thoroughly investigates both parties before introductions are made, and keeps in touch with her clients by telephone after they marry to ensure they are happy. -- DPA
