Agam to receive revitalisation for 37 schools affected by natural disasters

Lubuk Basung (ANTARA) - The Agam Regency Government, West Sumatra, will receive assistance to revitalise 37 schools affected by hydrometeorological disasters from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) in 2026.

“As many as 37 of the 67 schools affected by disasters in Agam will receive revitalisation assistance from Kemendikdasmen with a fund of around IDR 30 billion,” said the Head of the Agam Education and Culture Office, Andri, in Lubuk Basung, Saturday.

He said that the 37 schools consist of 15 early childhood education centres (TK or Paud) out of 26 units that were damaged, and 16 elementary schools (SD) out of 31 units that were damaged.

Furthermore, six junior high schools (SMP) out of nine units that were damaged are spread across the region.

Currently, assistance has been received by 31 schools and rehabilitation has begun.

The remaining six schools are in the process of being approved and will begin work soon.

“Schools that have received assistance have only been working for a month, with 15 percent of the work completed, and the work will be carried out over six calendar months,” he said.

He added that the revitalisation funds received by schools vary according to the extent of the damage to buildings affected by the disaster that hit Agam at the end of November 2025.

For elementary school level, the funds range from IDR 400 million to IDR 1 billion, and for junior high schools, it reaches IDR 2 billion.

“SMPN 1 Tanjung Raya and SMPN 2 Tanjung Raya each received IDR 2 billion,” he said.

The rehabilitation or repair work of the schools will be carried out by the School Development Committee (P2SP), which consists of community members.

The funds will be transferred by Kemendikdasmen to the P2SP account after the cooperation agreement is signed.

“The rehabilitation work will not be carried out simultaneously, because once the cooperation agreement is signed, the funds will be transferred and the work will begin,” he said.

He admitted that the Agam Regency Government is also carrying out rehabilitation of schools affected by disasters, namely nine school units, using funds transferred to the region in 2026.

Furthermore, 21 units are being proposed to the central government, consisting of nine early childhood education centres (TK or Paud) and 12 elementary schools (SD).

“We hope that all schools affected by the disaster will be completed soon,” he said.
