A number of residents in Nagari Maninjau, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, have had to endure significant hardships to maintain family ties during Eid al-Fitr. They had to walk through road sections littered with piles of stones and debris from the flash flood.

According to Antara on Saturday (21/3/2026), Warnida was one of those who chose an alternative route—a narrow path lined with rock piles on both sides—to reach her husband’s relatives more quickly. However, midway through the journey, she and her family were forced to turn back due to a deep and extensive pool of water.

In that situation, her child had to carry the baby, so they decided to return to the main route despite the longer travel time.

She mentioned that a small bridge near her home had been destroyed, making the trip to her relatives’ house even more challenging. Nevertheless, the tradition of silaturahmi continued amid the post-disaster recovery conditions.

“The plan was to visit family. No matter the circumstances, we still visit our relatives, even if the mood is a bit subdued because of the situation. Hopefully, things can return to how they were before,” she said.

The road section traversed by Warnida and her family was not far from a river filled with large rock materials due to the hydrometeorological disaster at the end of November 2025.

Not far from the river, two young women were seen carrying their toddlers as they crossed a simple wooden bridge and followed the riverbank to their relatives’ homes.

Meanwhile, a number of primary school-aged children were observed collecting new denomination banknotes into their bags and pockets. The local ‘manambang’ tradition during Eid continued, where children go from house to house to receive Holiday Savings (THR) in the form of new banknotes.
