Agam Regency Proposes Disaster-Damaged Infrastructure Repairs to Ministry
Lubuk Basung (ANTARA) — The Agam Regency Government in West Sumatra has resubmitted proposals for the repair of infrastructure damaged by hydrometeorological disasters to the Ministry of Public Works.
Agam Regent Benni Warlis said in Lubuk Basung on Thursday that the proposed infrastructure works include the repair or reconstruction of regency roads affected by flooding and landslides, the construction of suspension bridges in isolated areas, the rehabilitation of agricultural irrigation networks, and the restoration of clean water facilities for residents.
"We discussed this during a working visit to the Ministry of Public Works on Wednesday (18 February)," he said.
He stated that the Agam Regency Government had prepared technical documents and supporting data as material for consideration in the budgeting process at the ministerial level.
The infrastructure damage has directly affected residents' mobility, agricultural produce distribution, and access to basic services.
He expressed hope for support from the central government through infrastructure budgeting schemes so that the restoration of roads, suspension bridges, irrigation, and clean water systems could be realised promptly.
"This is urgent as it concerns basic needs and the sustainability of the community's economy," he said.
The Directorate General of Infrastructure Budgeting at the Ministry of Public Works welcomed the proposals and indicated it would conduct further assessments in accordance with prevailing mechanisms and national priorities.
Through this meeting, it is hoped that the rehabilitation and reconstruction process for disaster-affected infrastructure in Agam Regency can proceed more swiftly, enabling community activities to return to normal and strengthening the region's resilience against disaster risks.
He added that flash floods, landslides, and flooding that struck Agam had caused damage to thousands of homes, bridges, agricultural land, and other infrastructure.
The natural disasters also resulted in 166 deaths, spread across Palembayan (146 persons), Malalak (17 persons), Tanjung Raya (10 persons), Matur (one person), Ampek Nagari (one person), and other areas.
Meanwhile, 36 persons remain missing, spread across Palembayan sub-district (32 persons), Malalak (one person), Tanjung Raya (two persons), and Lubuk Basung (one person).
