Again! Israeli Attack Kills 2 TNI Peacekeepers in Lebanon
An Israeli attack in Lebanon has once again killed TNI soldiers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). This follows a previous Israeli attack that killed one TNI member.
“These are two separate incidents and we are investigating them as two separate incidents,” said UNIFIL spokesperson Kandice Ardiel, quoted by Reuters news agency on Tuesday (31/3/2026), as reported by detikNews.
The two TNI soldiers were killed on Monday (30/3) after an explosion of unknown origin destroyed their vehicle near Bani Hayyan in southern Lebanon.
To the UN, the Israeli military claimed it is still investigating to determine whether the incident was caused by Hezbollah or military activity.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack. He stated that attacks on peacekeeping forces constitute a grave violation of international humanitarian law and can be categorised as war crimes.
“We strongly condemn these unacceptable incidents - peacekeeping forces must not be targeted,” said the head of UN peacekeeping, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, to reporters during a briefing on Monday.
Previously, one TNI soldier was reported killed on Sunday (29/3). The victim died when a projectile exploded near one of the group’s positions near the village of Adchit al-Qusayr in southern Lebanon.
The attack occurred amid escalation between the Israeli military (IDF) and Hezbollah at the UNIFIL headquarters near Adchit Al Qusayr in southern Lebanon. In addition, three other TNI soldiers were injured.
The victims were from Yonif 113/Jaya Sakti (JS) Infantry Brigade (Brigif) 25/Siwah, Kodam Iskandar Muda (IM), Aceh. The fallen soldier was named Praka Farizal Rhomadhon.
“Based on reports from the area of assignment, the incident affected TNI soldiers who are part of Kompi C UNP 7-1 Satgas Yonmek XXIII-S/UNIFIL,” said TNI Kapuspen Major General Aulia Dwi Narsullah on Monday (30/3).
Indonesia has condemned the Israeli attack that killed TNI soldiers. Indonesia also calls for a thorough and transparent investigation.
The Government of the Republic of Indonesia expresses its deepest condolences over the death of TNI members serving with UNIFIL. Indonesia reaffirms its condemnation of the Israeli attack in southern Lebanon.
“Indonesia reiterates its condemnation of the Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon and calls on all parties to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon, to stop attacks on civilians and infrastructure, and to return to dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further escalation and advance peace,” stated the Foreign Ministry.
