Aftershocks Continue in NTT This Morning, One Reaching M 5.2
A number of aftershocks are still occurring in the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region after it was struck by a large earthquake measuring magnitude (M) 7.7 yesterday. The strength of the aftershocks varies.
Most recently, at 07.54 WIB, an earthquake was detected in the Ruteng area, Manggarai. The M 3.3 earthquake was at a depth of 22 km.

Earlier, at 6.12 WIB this morning, an M 5.2 earthquake also shook Ruteng, Manggarai.
“Gempa Mag:5.2, 16-Agu-26 06:12:54 WIB, Lok:7.87 LS,120.64 BT,” wrote BMKG.
The earthquake was at a depth of 10 km. BMKG reported that the earthquake had no potential to trigger a tsunami wave.
“No tsunami potential,” it said.
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) previously provided the latest information regarding the handling of the M 7.7 earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). More than 40 residents died and hundreds of homes were damaged.
“The total number of fatalities has reached 47 people. The distribution of victims has been identified in Manggarai Regency with 24 people, East Manggarai 17 people, Sikka 3 people, Ngada 1 person and Ende 1 person,” said Acting Head of the BNPB Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, Saturday (15/8).
In addition to these victims, officers evacuated and provided medical treatment to the injured. BNPB and other parties sent food and non-food aid to the disaster area.
Preliminary data as of Saturday (15/8) at 17.00 WIB showed that the total number of heavily damaged houses reached 157 units, moderately damaged 41 units and lightly damaged 148 units. Damage also occurred to public facilities, including 87 educational facilities, 18 health facilities, 5 places of worship, 6 offices and a number of other public facilities.
Meanwhile, Director of Preparedness at Basarnas, Noer Isrodin Muchlisin, detailed that in East Manggarai Regency there were 11 fatalities and 24 injured. Then, in Sikka Regency there were 3 fatalities and 2 injured.
In West Manggarai Regency, 1 person was recorded dead and 2 injured. Furthermore, in Manggarai Regency there were 24 fatalities and 22 injured. Meanwhile, in Nagekeo Regency there was 1 fatality.
