Aftermath of Amsal Case, Attorney General's Office Pulls Four Karo Prosecutors to Jakarta
The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has pulled four officials and prosecutors from the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office to Jakarta for intensive examination. This step follows the controversy surrounding the handling of the case involving videographer Amsal Sitepu, which has attracted sharp scrutiny, including from the House of Representatives Commission III.
The Head of the Legal Information Section of the North Sumatra Attorney General’s Office, Rizaldi, revealed that those summoned are the Head of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office, Danke Rajagukguk, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Section, Reinhard Harve Sembiring, and two Public Prosecutors, Wira Arizona and Junaidi.
“All four have now been brought to the Attorney General’s Office for clarification and in-depth examination regarding the handling of that case,” Rizaldi said on Sunday (5/4).
Rizaldi explained that the prosecutors’ departure was escorted directly by internal officials from the North Sumatra Attorney General’s Office. They were accompanied by the Intelligence Assistant of the North Sumatra Attorney General’s Office, Irfan Wibowo, and the Head of Intelligence Section I, Beny Purba, on Saturday (4/4).
This personnel withdrawal is the aftermath of allegations of unprofessionalism and intimidation in the Amsal Sitepu case. On Thursday (2/4/2026), the House of Representatives Commission III summoned the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office team and the North Sumatra Chief Prosecutor to Senayan.
In that meeting, the DPR highlighted the actions of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office, deemed to have engaged in propaganda after Amsal Sitepu was acquitted by the court. Additionally, there were serious allegations regarding gratification in the form of a car from Karo Regent Antonius Ginting to the Head of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office.
The alleged gratification is suspected to be the cause of the stagnation in several case investigations within the Karo Regency Government.
The Amsal case originated from a village profile video production project in Karo Regency for the 2020-2022 fiscal year. Amsal Sitepu, through CV Promiseland, offered video production services to 20 villages with a contract value of around Rp30 million per village.
The issue arose when the Karo Regency Inspectorate deemed there to be a mark-up. Auditors opined that the real cost should only be Rp24.1 million per village, assuming editing, cutting, and dubbing costs were zero rupiah.
This difference formed the basis for prosecutors to charge Amsal with causing state losses of Rp202 million. However, in court, Amsal was acquitted because the charges were deemed insufficiently strong.
Member of Commission III of the DPR RI, Rudianto Lallo, questioned the fate and justice regarding the case of Amsal Christy Sitepu, who had been detained for 131 days before finally being acquitted.
