Aftermath of Acid Attack on KontraS Activist, Head of Strategic Intelligence Agency Replaced

TNI Headquarters has stated that the position of Head of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Kabais), held by Lieutenant General TNI Yudi Abrimantyo, has been handed over. This handover was announced as a consequence of the investigation into the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.

“We need to state here that, as a form of accountability, the handover of the Kabais position has been carried out today,” said Head of the TNI Information Centre (Kapuspen) Major General TNI Aulia Dwi Nasrullah during a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta.

Aulia was asked for more details about the meaning of this handover. Media personnel present sought confirmation on whether the Kabais position had been taken over by another official. However, Aulia did not explain all aspects in detail.

It is known that four BAIS members—Captain NDP, First Lieutenant SL, First Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES—have been designated as suspected perpetrators of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. To date, the four suspects are still undergoing examination by the TNI’s internal investigative team.

National Council Chairman of the Setara Institute, Hendardi, stated that the securing of the four TNI BAIS members, who have been named suspects by the TNI Main Military Police, is an effort to localise the case so that it is only uncovered and tried internally within the TNI. In fact, President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the National Police to investigate it and bring the perpetrators to general court.

“President Prabowo Subianto, as conveyed by the Minister Secretary of State Prasetyo Hadi, has given instructions to the National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo to thoroughly investigate the terror case of the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. President Prabowo has instructed the National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo to investigate this case objectively, transparently, and as quickly as possible,” said Hendardi in a press release on Thursday (19/3/2026).
