Afterhours Fire at Poins Square Caused by Gas Leak, One Employee Sustained Burns, Rp200m Loss
JAKARTA – A fire broke out at the Afterhours bar and billiards venue in Poins Square, Cilandak, South Jakarta, on Monday 25 May 2026. The incident is believed to have been triggered by a gas leak in the kitchen on the second floor of the building. The fire was reported to firefighters at around 7.20pm WIB. “The burning was at the café, yes. There was a gas leak, yes,” said South Jakarta Fire Department Duty Officer Anwar Kasim when interviewed at the scene on Monday. South Jakarta BPBD Task Force Head Kendar explained that the fire began when an employee was replacing a gas cylinder in the kitchen. “While replacing the gas cylinder, the gas leaked uncontrollably and caused a fire,” Kendar told Kompas.com via WhatsApp on Monday. The fire initially broke out in the kitchen area located in a corner of the second floor. However, the flames quickly spread to other parts of the building. As the fire intensified, employees called firefighters at around 7.17pm WIB. As a result of the incident, employee Eka sustained burns and was rushed to hospital by colleagues. “The janitorial staff member was taken to hospital for medical treatment,” Kendar said. Several employees are still in shock following the incident. “We don’t know yet if operations will continue, as there are no instructions yet, and we’re still in shock,” said Indira (not her real name), an employee, to Kompas.com on Monday.
