After Two Absences, Former NTB Governor Questioned Over Alleged Motocross Corruption
Former West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Governor Zulkieflimansyah finally complied with a summons for questioning by the NTB High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati NTB) on Wednesday (22/7/2026). Zul, as he is known, underwent the examination after failing to attend two previous summonses related to alleged corruption in the 2023 Lombok Sumbawa Motocross Competition.
Accompanied by his legal counsel, Zul arrived at the Kejati NTB office at around 09.00 Wita and was questioned until 16.45 Wita. “Yes, I was asked for information regarding the Lombok Sumbawa motocross event,” Zulkieflimansyah told reporters in the Kejati NTB lobby.
Zul stated that investigators posed only a dozen or so questions despite the hours-long session. “The questions to us were not many, around 14 to 15, but the typing took a long time,” he added with a slight laugh.
He explained that his previous failure to appear was due to a misunderstanding, denying that he had deliberately ignored the summonses. “There was a miscommunication. I did not receive the invitation,” Zul said. According to him, the summons letter was sent to Semen Gersik, where he serves as a commissioner, but he noted that commissioners do not attend the office every day.
Head of Public Relations at Kejati NTB, Muhammad Harun Al Rasyid, confirmed the examination, emphasising that Zul was questioned as a witness. To date, the prosecutor’s office has examined a number of current and former NTB provincial government officials in the case. These include former NTB Tourism Office Head Jamaluddin Malady, who now serves as Head of the Government Bureau at the NTB Regional Secretariat; former NTB Inspectorate Inspector Ibnu Salim; former Head of the NTB Regional Financial and Asset Management Agency (BPKAD) Samsul Rizal; and former NTB Regional Secretary Lalu Gita Ariadi.
The Lombok Sumbawa Motocross Competition 2023 was held at the Tohpati Sayang-Sayang Circuit in Mataram City with a total budget of Rp 24 billion. The funds were sourced from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy during the tenure of acting NTB Governor Lalu Gita Ariadi. The event was organised directly by the NTB Tourism Office, but investigators found indications of budget misuse. Findings revealed overpayments to service providers and tax shortfalls totalling Rp 2.6 billion. The breakdown includes Rp 1.2 billion in payments to partners, a tax underpayment of Rp 404 million, a payment discrepancy by the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) of Rp 601 million, and a tax shortfall from IMI NTB of Rp 356 million. An overpayment for official travel expenses amounting to Rp 6.2 million was also discovered.
