After Tensions Flare, Student Protest on Jakarta's Sudirman Ends Peacefully

A combined mass of students and community members staged a protest in the Dukuh Atas area of Jakarta on Friday (12/6/2026). The demonstration was a response to issues surrounding the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme, which has allegedly become a source of corruption, and the increase in Pertamax fuel prices, which is seen as worsening the economic conditions of the public. During the action, participants kicked police barricades and clashed with police and military personnel. The protest, which included a long march by University of Indonesia students, ultimately ended peacefully.
