After Temporary Seal, DKI Transportation Agency Takes Over Parking Management in Blok M

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency has temporarily taken over the management of parking services in the Blok M area, South Jakarta, after the parking area was sealed due to administrative issues with the operator whose permit was known to have expired since 2023.

The Head of the South Jakarta Parking Implementation Unit, Damanik, explained that parking management is now temporarily handled by the local government while awaiting the process of selecting a new operator.

“Yesterday we stopped and sealed it. Then last night there was a vacancy, meaning we had to self-manage; we stepped in as the local government. By the next morning, it was already running,” Damanik said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Damanik also stated that the applied parking tariffs remain based on the applicable Governor’s Regulation (Pergub) and have not changed. According to him, the previous temporary halt was carried out after it was discovered that the appointed parking operator no longer had a valid operational permit.

Damanik further explained that the parking operator was a company named Best Parking, whose permit had expired since 2023, a situation that could potentially harm the area manager due to incomplete administrative documents from the operator.

Regarding allegations of illegal levies by rogue parking attendants in the area, Damanik said his side continues to conduct supervision and enforcement in the field.

In addition, they have installed banners to socialise with the public to only make parking payments at the exit gate of the “gate in/gate out” system.

“We ask the public not to give tips to rogue parking attendants and to make payments only once at the exit gate,” he said.

He acknowledged that rogue parking attendants are still found due to the economic needs of the community. Nevertheless, the Transportation Agency continues to carry out periodic enforcement.

The Special Committee (Pansus) on Parking Governance of the DKI Jakarta DPRD sealed the illegal parking area in Blok M Square, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, to protect public interests and regional original revenue (PAD).

“The sealing was carried out to protect potential losses to regional original revenue,” said the Chairman of the Pansus on Parking Governance of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Jupiter, in Jakarta on Monday (11/5).

According to him, the illegal parking in the Blok M Square area not only harms the public but also the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

For this reason, the Pansus, together with the executive in this case the Parking Unit (UP) of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, sealed the illegal parking, and this will continue in other areas.
