JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno has claimed that waste management in Jakarta has achieved 100 per cent efficiency.

This was stated by Rano Karno during the plenary session for the governor’s speech on the Accountability Report (LKPJ) for the Year 2025 at the DKI Jakarta DPRD Building on Monday (20/4/2026).

“The increase in waste management with 100 per cent of waste being handled,” said Rano on Monday.

He also mentioned that the current capacity of Jakarta’s waste handling system reaches 5,280 tonnes per day.

“That 100 per cent consists of 30 per cent waste reduction and 70 per cent waste handling with a system capacity of 5,280 tonnes per day,” Rano continued.

However, amid this claim, Jakarta experienced waste accumulation problems in several locations at the beginning of 2026, particularly from March to early April 2026.

The build-up occurred from temporary neighbourhood collection points (TPS), market areas, to residential communities.

At the Waduk Cincin TPS in Papanggo, North Jakarta, rubbish even overflowed onto the access road.

“Yes, the trucks going there have to pass through here. But because of the accumulation, the rubbish is placed here,” said Anto (30), a local resident, on Monday (6/4/2026).

Similar conditions occurred at the Tambora Flats in West Jakarta.

Rubbish piled up to the sixth floor because the waste disposal chute was clogged.

At the Kramat Jati Main Market in East Jakarta, mounds of rubbish reappeared, reaching heights of six metres.

Meanwhile, at the Rawadas TPS in Duren Sawit, rubbish accumulated to two to four metres because it was not collected.
