After Signing Memorandum, US and Iran to Hold Technical Talks in Switzerland

Technical-level talks between delegations from the United States and Iran will be held at the luxury mountain resort of Burgenstock, Switzerland, on 21 June, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday (20/6). “As a follow-up to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, technical-level talks will be held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, on 21 June 2026,” the ministry said in a statement. The statement added that representatives from the United States and Iran, along with mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, will participate in the discussions. The United States and Iran had previously been expected to begin negotiations on Friday (19/6), but they were postponed due to fighting between Israel and the Lebanese Shia movement, Hezbollah. Earlier, on 14 June, Iran and the US confirmed that the drafting of the memorandum of understanding had been completed. Then, on the night before 18 June, the two countries signed the document remotely, guaranteeing an end to the military conflict that began on 28 February. The memorandum will give both countries 60 days to negotiate a final agreement on issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme and US-imposed sanctions. Additionally, the memorandum sets a deadline for the US to lift its naval blockade and for Iran to restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
