JAKARTA — Several passengers have proposed that the tariff range for the Transjabodetabek service on the SH2 route from Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta Airport should be set between Rp 12,000 and Rp 15,000 following the conclusion of the promotional tariff period.

The proposal emerged after passengers learnt that the current Rp 3,500 fare is only being applied for the first three months of the service’s operation. After this period, the government plans to conduct an evaluation and adjust the tariff accordingly.

Teti (58), a passenger from East Jakarta, stated that a reasonable tariff range could reference the price of airport train tickets, which she regularly uses. According to her, a tariff of approximately Rp 15,000 remains reasonable, as travel by bus could potentially take considerably longer than the airport train due to unpredictable traffic conditions.

Given these circumstances, passengers would need to allocate more travel time when using the newly inaugurated Transjabodetabek service, which was formally launched on Thursday morning.

“It would feel reasonable and affordable if the fare is low, so as passengers, we consequently need to prepare more time. We can still arrive on schedule without worrying about being late,” said Teti.

A similar view was expressed by Arif (23), another passenger using the service. He estimated that an ideal tariff would be in the range of Rp 12,000.

This tariff level, he suggested, needs to account for unpredictable traffic conditions and the numerous stops along the route.

“Perhaps Rp 12,000 because, for example, if you depart in the late afternoon, there’s quite a lot of congestion near the DPR building through Senayan. Today alone, the journey from the airport to Blok M took up to two hours,” explained Arif.

Provincial Government officials stated that the Jakarta Provincial Government has set a special tariff of Rp 3,500 for this route during the first three months of operation.

This tariff policy has been implemented particularly to support public mobility ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

“After that, we will conduct an evaluation,” said an official at Blok M Terminal on Thursday.

Officials explained that following the evaluation period, the tariff would likely be adjusted due to the substantial subsidy burden that must be borne by the local government.
